We took a road trip last month from NJ to Florida with some stops along the way. We’ve become fans of road trips in recent years simply because it gives us so much more flexibility. There are so many little places or things that we miss when we fly and we never have to worry about packing too much or too little. We just throw what we want in the car and take off. Of course flying is a necessity for some trips but when you have the time, driving is a great alternative.
Our first stop was in Charleston which is so beautiful and rich in history. There are so many stories that make up the city but it’s a place you have to see and walk to really appreciate it. Just not in the summer..:)
Here are a few photos of the landscape and Magnolia Plantation located about 20 minutes from downtown.
I found this in a rest stop just outside the city. I’m guessing they’ve had some problems in the past..:)
You have to love a hotel who provides you with cider, different kinds of M&M’s all day long and three different kinds of chocolate chip cookies at night.

Photos never do beauty justice but it gives you sense. Hope you enjoyed them.
Charleston is on my list – I enjoyed the photos. Road trips do provide flexibility and a certain amount of freedom! Thanks for sharing part of your adventure!

I was in South Carolina only overnight to take a cruise with my family. I didn’t get a chance to visit anything but the Sticky Fingers restaurant! This has given me a reason to want to return (plus I have a childhood friend who lives there, maybe she has a room to let 😉 )

I’m sure she has a room to let and any restaurant called Sticky Fingers is worth returning to..:)

Charleston is a beautiful city but it floods all the time. I read that they’re trying to do away with the horse carriages – too cruel to the horses.

It does flood all the time and I know they have rules about the horses. They can’t take them out if the temps are over a certain number and they have to check in and out with the city so they’re not out for more than an hour or they pay a significant fine. But you never know what goes on behind the scenes.

These are really nice photos. I have never been to Charleston, but it’s a place I’d like to visit, especially if there are M&Ms! We are a few years out of being able to take a trip like this, but we’re already making a list of places to visit.

My husband and I have been visiting all the states – just have Alaska and Hawaii left to do. I have to agree that travel by car does let you go to all the hidden delights in out of the way places.

I haven’t been to Charleston in 16 years, my ex and I went there on a road trip as well. Still looks the same! 😀

I was there many years ago and loved it. Road trips are the best. We used to go up the northeast coast every fall during peeper season. Cars are the best. No guilt about taking extra clothing (sometimes it’s warmer and sometimes it’s freezing!) and you can stop along the way. I don’t think I’d like to go across the country by car (too long) but staying within a day or two driving time is great.

Like you I’m not sure I’d like to drive cross country both ways but I’ve considered driving one way and flying the other. Or fly out west and drive through some of those states like Wyoming, Montana, etc. bucket list..;)

I love road trips also. However the traffic just seems to get heavier and heavier. We often drive from Boston down to Delaware to visit family and leave at 5 AM to miss the worst of it. Looks like you had great weather when you went-your photos are gorgeous. Missed the snow, huh? 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, we we’re fortunate to miss the eight inches of snow we received around here. Like you we usually leave at the same time she. We travel to New England. But being retired and not traveling in the summer we found leaving and returning on weekends was a gift. No commuters and almost no construction.

I ‘stalked’ Dale here … 😉 My ‘advent calendar’ is to follow her around and (for the most part – lest she gets a swollen head) ‘follow’ the people she writes about in her advent calendar … It’s my lazy way of finding great blogs — let Dale do the findin’ and here I come along …
🙂
Lookin’ foward lookin’ around your website,
